Our Racial Equity Action Plan
A local 2019 law requires every City department to have a Racial Equity Action Plan (REAP).
Supporting information
In 2020, a group of volunteer staff joined Director John Arntz to form our Racial Equity Team. That year, they completed our first REAP. (Read the full text of our current REAP here.)
Based on the Office of Racial Equity Framework, our REAP covers seven major topics:
- Hiring and Recruitment;
- Retention and Promotion;
- Discipline and Separation;
- Diverse and Equitable Leadership;
- Mobility and Professional Development;
- Organizational Culture of Inclusion and Belonging; and
- Boards and Commissions.
Our REAP explains what we will do to build a more inclusive workplace, including:
- Modifying recruitment and hiring practices to attract a more diverse applicant pool;
- Helping employees find and use City benefits and professional training; and
- Cultivating a workplace environment where all employees feel valued and supported.
In every subsequent year, we released our Racial Equity Progress Report. To provide feedback on this topic, please email us or call 415-554-4375.
