Background
Established in 2018, San Francisco Digital Equity leads the City's digital equity response. A division of the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD). This initiative exemplifies MOHCD's commitment to equity and inclusiveness to San Francisco’s most underserved residents.
Goals
The City’s 2019-2024 Digital Equity Strategic Plan presents three goals:
- Expand affordable, high-quality internet access through strategic partnerships.
- Launch digital literacy innovation programs.
- Establish central leadership and accountability for measurable change.
Collaboration
We collaborate with community and City partners to offer digital equity resources:
- Fund grantees providing direct services to the community.
- Refer services from a trusted network of service providers.
- Help residents access free Internet with the Fiber to Housing program.

Affordable Internet
Broadband for All partnered with EveryoneOn* and the California Emerging Technology Fund to help you find programs in your area.
Fiber to Housing Program
Get free Internet for affordable housing. Visit the website for a list of locations.
Locations with wired ethernet connections
- Apply for a router with your management or services team.
- Setup the router in your home for free Internet.
Locations with secure Wi-Fi
- Find the flyer posted by your management or services team.
- Connect your device using the Wi-Fi name and password.

- St. Anthony's Tenderloin Tech Lab: Digital skills training, and support with computer access
Youth and school resources
- Bayview Hunters Point YMCA: Workplace skills training for Transitional Age Youth (TAY)
- Five Keys Schools and Programs: Digital skills training
- Centers for Equity and Success: Digital skills training and barrier removal navigation
- Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco: Digital service connection and digital skill building
- Sunnydale Boys and Girls Club: Tutoring, academic support, and community coordination
Seniors and adults with disabilities
- Community Living Campaign: Low-cost Internet and devices; virtual tech classes and help desks
- Community Tech Network (CTN): Digital skills training and navigation, digital coaching
- Curry Senior Center: Tech training, health workshops, and social engagement
- Felton Tech Squad Tech support, digital skills training, and broadband access
- PRC (formerly Positive Resource Center): Computer skills assessment
- Self Help for the Elderly: Free computer tutoring and digital literacy training
- SF Connected Locations: This program has provided over 90,000 hours of training in over 50 computer labs throughout San Francisco. These labs are located at public sites including senior centers, community centers, supportive and senior housing sites, adult daycare, and adult day health care centers.
- SF Tech Council is a mission-driven, multi-sector initiative advancing digital inclusion for older adults and people with disabilities.

<p data-block-key="j1kd8">The Digital Equity Strategic Plan was developed through in-depth research, a community needs assesment and input from a multitude of stakeholders across sectors. The Plan defines our strategies and approaches to improving access to internet, promoting digital literacy, and achieving sustainable, meaningful impact for our most underserved residents. </p>
<p data-block-key="fnm44">The SF Digital Equity Playbook is designed for social service providers who want to help their clients get connected or learn digital skills. It contains information on free access locations, discount Internet programs, training curriculum and strategies, and more.</p>
Refurbathon in Chinatown
This workshop provided digital literacy and Internet safety training. Participants received a refurbished computer after completion. This event took place on February 1st, 2024 in Chinatown.
